The Internet and Social Media at a Crossroads: Capitalism or Commonism? Perspectives for Critical Political Economy and Critical Theory. The Fifth ICTs and Society–Conference.
3-7 June 2015 the fifth conference of the ICTs-and-Society Network took place as part of the International Society for Information Studies (since 2017 International Society for the Study of Information) Summit Vienna 2015, chaired by Wolfgang Hofkirchner who was its President then, at the Vienna University of Technology.
The theme of the whole summit was: Information Society at the Crossroads: Response and Responsibility of the Sciences of Information.
The topic of the ICTs-and Society conference was: The Internet and Social Media at a Crossroads: Capitalism or Commonism? Perspectives for Critical Political Economy and Critical Theory.
The call of the conference addressed 23 special topics, e.g., An Alternative Internet!? Prosumer Co-operatives, the Digital Commons and Alternative Online Spaces (the photo above shows Marisol Sandoval presenting Prosumer Co-operatives and the Prospects of Truly Social Media). Several sessions were chaired by UTI Research Group members Christian Fuchs, Marisol Sandoval and Sebastian Sevignani.
