5th anniversary of the Vienna Manifesto for Digital Humanism

Hannes Werthner, the initiator of the Digital Humanism Initiative, invites to a panel discussion reflecting on the accomplishments and the future of the Digital Humanism Initiative. He writes:

In 2019, TU Wien Informatics invited over 100 international scholars from a broad range of disciplines. Their aim was to discuss the broader implications of the digital transformation on society and to form an initiative to take action towards more human- and environment-centered technology, pertaining to human rights, and fostering inclusion, individual agency, and democracy. Their goals and demands were released as the Vienna Manifesto on Digital Humanism, which found widespread support across academia, civil service, industry, and society.

Since then, the initiative grew through a multitude of activities, including the Digital Humanism Lecture Series, two highly circulated compendia, and the Digital Humanism Summer School, this year already in its third edition. We take this occasion to celebrate 5 years of the Vienna Manifesto on Digital Humanism, to look back at what has been achieved so far, to discuss the steps ahead, and reflect on the alliances that brought us here and that we need to form to continue our success story.
