An open letter on the urgent need to regulate digital technologies, given the latest threats

The Digital Humanism TU Wien team writes:

The Digital Humanism Initiative issued a public statement in support of the EU AI Act in December 2023. Now we think it is time again to support the EU AI Act, as well as the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA), given the current rising opposition to these regulations.

All three EU Acts are now under a renewed attack by Big Tech with some of these urging the Trump administration to use all tools at its disposal (e.g. tariffs) to prevent the EC from implementing these Acts “against American companies” (see e.g. Zuckerber urges Trump to stop EU from screwing with US tech companies/).

We believe that the European Union (EU) must stand up to the overt threats to its digital regulatory framework which has been and continues to be constructed in order to safeguard its humanistic and democratic values.

For this reason, we ask for your support and signature in the following public statement.
Please go to https://dighum.org/open-letter-on-the-urgent-need-to-regulate-digital-technologies, sign and also distribute it as widely as possible.

We must not be silent on this issue, given the current trends.
