GSIS – Round Table at the World Congress of Philosophy (WCP 2024) in Rome
GSIS members Raffaela Giovagnoli, Renate C.-Z.-Quehenberger and Irena Mostowicz participated with a Round Table on “Habits, Rituals and Human Life“ at the XXV World Congress of Philosophy in Rome (Italy). Hosted by Sapienza University it went under the general theme “Philosophy across Boundaries”.
A glance at the plenary program of the Congress should reveal a shared attempt to embed theoretical reflections in the lived reality of our time. Leading scholars of diverse backgrounds discussed pressing ethical, social, and spiritual issues.
The GSIS-panelists offered an interdisciplinary view on rituals and habits to a numerous audience. Reflections on rituals as social practices in terms of complexity in social sciences (Prof. Raffaela Giovagnoli) were intertwining with a view on political rituals as bases for an identity (Dr. Irena Mostowicz), while examining the dichotomy between the sacred and the profane by tracing back present rituals to Neolithic belief systems (Dr. Renate C.-Z.-Quehenberger). The presentation was concluded by a long, vivid and fruitful discussion with scholars from different nationalities adding their views to the topic.
This WCP-contribution was a continuation of a series of discussions initiated by Dr. Mostowicz with Prof. Giovagnoli at the World Logic Day in 2022 planned to be continued at World Logic Day 2025.
The World Congress of Philosophy gathered this year over 5000 participants from all over the world. The next conference is planned to be in Japan in 2028.
