GSIS Member Gerhard Chroust 80 years old

Gerhard Chroust is Professor emeritus at Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria. He belongs to the first people in Austria that have been educated in informatics (as different from computer science in the wake of the influential Austrian pioneer Heinz Zemanek). His penchant for interdisciplinary contexts led him, among others, to systems research and he had been a longtime secretary of the International Federation for Systems Research (IFSR). In 2004, he was initiative in founding the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science (BCSSS). He was elected member of the International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences (IASCYS). He is still involved in organising the annual Interdisciplinary Information Management Talks (IDIMT) together with a partner in the Czech Republic, the University of Economics in Prague.

The best wishes for his anniversary from our Institute! We look forward to more years of activity with him.

Look here for an appraisal authored by the Austrian Computer Society (OCG) which he co-founded and whose longtime President he was (in German).
