How to integrate and implement the approach towards a techno-eco-social transformation

Our colleague Teresa Guarda organised in 2022 a new edition of the ARTIIS international conference:
Advanced Research in Technologies, Information, Innovation and Sustainability
Second International Conference, ARTIIS 2022
Santiago de Compostela, Spain, September 12–15, 2022

The need for a greener and more digital world leads academia, governments, industry, and citizens to look for emerging, sustainable, intelligent solutions and trends.

These new solutions and ideas must promote communication and ubiquitous computing between society agents, i.e., citizens, industry, organizations, networked machines and physical objects, and provide a promising vision of the future, integrating the real world of knowledge agents and things with the virtual world of information. The emerging approaches under study or development can address several dimensions with a technological focus like information, innovation, and sustainability and topics such as computing solutions, data intelligence, ethics, security, privacy, and sustainability.

The change observed in society modifies the landscape of human activity, particularly regarding knowledge acquisition and production, offering new possibilities and challenges that need to be explored, assessed, and disseminated.

To expose and disseminate such information, ARTIIS arose. ARTIIS is an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences, and concerns from the varying perspectives of technology, information, innovation, and sustainability.

ARTIIS 2022 had the support of the CIST Research and Innovation Center of the Universidad Estatal Peninsula de Santa Elena, Ecuador, and the Algoritmi Research Center of Minho University, Portugal. It was realized in a hybrid format, taking place both face-to-face and virtually at Santiago de Compostela, Spain, during September 12–15, 2022.

The Program Committee was composed of a multidisciplinary group of more than 175 experts from 29 countries, with the responsibility for evaluating, in a double-blind review process, the papers received for each of the main themes proposed for the conference and special sessions. Each paper was reviewed by at least 3 Program Committee members and final acceptance decisions were made by the Program Committee chairs.

ARTIIS 2022 received 191 contributions from authors in 37 countries worldwide. The acceptance rate was 37.69 %, with the program comprising 72 regular papers.

Revised selected papers are published in the Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science series (CCIS), volume 1675 and 1676, edited by Teresa Guard et al.: https://www.artiis.org/authors/publication. It is indexed in DBLP, Google Scholar, EI-Compendex, SCImago, and Scopus. CCIS volumes are also submitted for inclusion in ISI Proceedings.

The first volume contains all the papers on the topics of Computing Solutions and Data Intelligence:

  • Computing Solutions addresses the development of applications and platforms involving computing and related to some area of knowledge or society. It includes papers on networks, pervasive computing, gamification, and software engineering.
  • Data Intelligence focuses on data (e.g., text, images) acquisition and processing using smart techniques or tools. It includes papers on computing intelligence, artificial intelligence, data science, and computer vision.

The second volume collates all papers relating to Sustainability or Ethics, Security, and Privacy:

  • Ethics, Security, and Privacy focuses on a more strict and secure area of information systems where the end-user is the main concern. Vulnerabilities, data privacy, and cybersecurity are the main subjects of this topic.
  • Sustainability explores a new type of computing which is more, green, connected, efficient, and sustainable. Subjects like immersive technology, smart cities, and sustainable infrastructure are part of this topic.

Besides the main conference, ARTIIS 2022 hosted 12 special sessions:

  • ACMaSDA 2022 – Applications of Computational Mathematics to Simulation and Data Analysis
