Digital needs and the public sphere
Sebastian Sevignani gave a paper at the annual Philosophy & Social Science Conference in Prague. The conference was hosted by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and took place in Vila Lana (see picture) on 1 June 2019.
Once founded by Jürgen Habermas and Gajo Petrović, the conference is now a regular hot spot for scholars who feel affiliated to the ideas of Frankfurt School theory. Among its (former) directors are scholars, such as Hartmut Rosa, Amy Allen, Rainer Fort, Nancy Fraser and others.
Sebastian’s paper, titled Digital Needs and the Public Sphere, referred to the so called Holzkamp School of critical psychology, a line of thought that was never really discussed by the Frankfurt scholars, in order to elaborate on a critical theory of subjective informational needs that cannot be fully satisfied within the present capitalist organisation of the public sphere.
